Unboxing the La Marzocco Pico Espresso Grinder

There’s something exciting about opening a new piece of coffee equipment for the first time — especially when it’s something you’ve carefully researched and intentionally chosen for both home use and future business use. In this video, I unbox the La Marzocco Pico grinder and share some first impressions after pairing it with my Linea Mini R setup at home.

The Pico sits in an interesting category for me. While it isn’t designed to replace a full commercial grinder for high-volume coffee cart service, it does seem like a great potential backup option while also serving as an excellent home espresso grinder. The build quality immediately stands out. It feels substantial, thoughtfully designed, and aesthetically matched to the Linea Mini in a way that makes the whole setup feel cohesive.

One interesting detail I discovered during the unboxing was finding a small amount of coffee residue already inside the burr chamber. At first, I was concerned the grinder may have been previously used, but it turns out this is completely normal. La Marzocco actually tests the grinders with coffee before shipping them out to ensure everything is functioning properly — a small detail that honestly inspires confidence in the product. I’m looking forward to spending more time dialing in espresso with this setup and continuing to learn the craft at home before bringing these tools into the future of Preamble Coffee.
