Which espresso machine should you buy for your coffee cart?
When people begin exploring espresso equipment, the number of options can feel overwhelming very quickly. There are machines designed for home enthusiasts, compact commercial setups, and fully professional café environments — all at wildly different price points. In my latest video, I spent some time walking through how I’m personally deciding which espresso machine to purchase for Preamble Coffee and, more importantly, how I’m thinking through that decision in the first place.
For me, the biggest question isn’t simply “What machine makes the best espresso?” Many machines can do that with quality beans and a capable grinder. The better question is: What kind of demand does this machine need to support? A home espresso machine may produce beautiful coffee for a handful of drinks, but a coffee cart serving 50+ drinks per hour requires something entirely different. Commercial machines are built for consistency, durability, temperature stability, simultaneous steaming and brewing, and long-term reliability. When you’re serving guests at weddings, offices, or community events, consistency matters. People are trusting you to deliver a great experience every time.
I also talk through several popular espresso machine brands and models currently being used in the coffee cart world, including machines from La Marzocco, Sanremo, Victoria Arduino, Rocket Espresso, and others. While there are many excellent options available, one factor that became increasingly important to me was local support and repairability. Since we’re fortunate to have a La Marzocco presence here in Fort Wayne, along with local technicians familiar with the machines, that level of support carries real value for a growing business. At the moment, I’m leaning toward the Linea Mini — a machine that seems to balance commercial-grade capability, long-term durability, and practical investment for where Preamble Coffee is today.
